Gender in the Classroom

Gender plays a part in our everyday lives. How does it play a part in your classroom? Recently, my staff was lucky enough to hear a representative from True Colors speak about gender identity. I posted on Instagram about it, but decided it needed its own blog post! In this blog post, I will share my own personal thoughts on addressing gender in the classroom, as well as resources to help educators learn more and make students and staff feel more comfortable expressing themselves! I want to first acknowledge that I am writing this post as a cis-gender woman. While I do not claim to identify as part of the genderqueer community, I have done my research and spoken with many people who do identify with the community to gather what I feel is the best information to share with teachers. School Year 2021-2022 Announcement!

Things are a-changing this year! Hello everyone! My name is Stefanie and I am no longer a preschool special education teacher - I'm a prek through second grade special education teacher! I'll be moving to a new district this year and am very excited. While this will be a big change for me, it will allow me to be closer to home which I really wanted for some personal family reasons, and it is a new experience in the world of special education. The school itself is also amazing because they have a huge focus on anti-bias education, have openly queer staff and staff of color, and have a D/deaf program!
